Jackie's Gift, by Sharon Robinson
Illustrated by,  F.B. Lewis
Written by Jackie Robinson's daughter this book tells the story of the Robinson's moving into Brooklyn in the 1940s. During this era there were not many black families in Brooklyn.  So the neighbors signed a petition to keep them out.  Everyone signed the petition except Steve's family.  They were a nice Jewish Family who became friends with the Robinson family.

When Christmas came Jackie Robinson took Steve's family a Christmas tree because they did not have one. But to his dismay he discovered that Jewish families do not celebrate Christmas. However, the two families were able to learn about each others religious beliefs and become great friends.

The Night Before Christmas, by Rachel Isodora, Illustrated by Rachel Isadora

This classic Christmas Story with it's rhythmic lyrics have been given a new life.  As Ms. Rachel Isadora sets this familiar story in an African setting.

Ms. Isadora is both a wonderful artist, an the author of this book.  She fills this book with beautiful collages.  For example who can resist a black Santa in dreadlocks with leopard pants.  This one will surely stretch the minds of your little ones, and fill them with holiday spirit.
